Polyetherimide (PEI)-based polymer foams meet the legal specifications of the aviation industry for aircraft interior requirements. In particular, the requirements for fire resistance, media resistance and mechanical properties pose a major challenge here. In the prior art, suitable polymer foams are produced as semi-finished products. Further processing into molded articles is uneconomical in terms of time and material utilization, for example due to large amounts of cutting waste. The invention solves this problem by processing principally suitable materials into particle foam molded articles. These molded articles can be produced in short cycle times without post-processing and are therefore manufactured economically. In addition, this opens up new possibilities for functional integration, e.g. by direct insertion of inserts in the foam, and in terms of design freedom.
